I'm finally gonna get down to blogging about my Bkk trip with the girls,bf and mum.I know everyone said that it is quite awkward that my mum is tagging along too since they only met her once before, which was quite a long time ago.So it didn't seem like a good idea to have her with us.Okay I tried to dissuade her from following us but she really wanted to go.I was hoping hard that the trip would be smooth and not awkward.I have really been looking forward to this trip since months ago as we booked our flight and hotel quite early so as to get a good deal.So I guess I placed quite high expectations for this trip.It was after all my first time travelling overseas with the girls.
So last saturday,we met at Changi Airport Terminal 1 at about 12.30pm to check in for our 2.40pm flight. It was my first time flying by Air Asia.I wasn't very particular about the airline we were flying by since it was just an approximately 2 hours flight,so we decided to get the one with the cheapest fare which was by far Air Asia. After checking in some of our luggages,we proceeded into the transit to get our lunch at the food court. We chanced upon this photo-taking thing and jumped right in to trying it out.
As you can see, after taking our pictures,we can direct them onto The Social Tree.Isn't this cute?We were so happy to see our faces on the screen haha.
A picture with mummy dearest.
Oh and not forgetting to take one with my darling bf!
We reached Don Mueang International Airport in slightly more than 2 hours. One bad thing about Air Asia is that it flies to the old airport which is relatively smaller and not as well furbished as the new one-Suvarnabhumi Airport. And there are fewer shops and eateries at Don Mueang.Besides that, the new airport has the Airport Rail Link that goes to the city area.We had no choice but to take a cab to the city.So upon arrival,we hurried to the customs to get our passport chopped and claimed our luggages soon after.Walked out of the airport to the taxi stand and there was already a long queue there.Didn't wait that long though.Got into 2 cabs and made our way to our hotel. It was raining very heavily at that time.Somehow hinting that this trip wouldn't be that pleasant.
The approximate charges for the various distance travelled. There's an extra 50baht surcharge from the airport which is only about $2?The total fare came up to only 255 baht for such a long distance. Was caught in a jam for quite some time but after that it was smooth traffic all the way.
The driver had a hard time locating the hotel as it was not situated along the main road.He had to turn into the alley. He even had to resort calling up the hotel to ask for directions. We stayed at Hotel Vista Express. It was a really small hotel surrounded by many shops. In the day,the vicinity was really bustling with makeshift stalls selling food and what nots. But comes the night time,it becomes a dark and quiet alley leading up to our hotel.A great disadvantage to us especially girls.
After checking in to our hotel,we unpacked our stuff and then decided to head over to Siam for dinner.I heard about the highly raved Som Tam Nua at the Siam area but I forgot the directions to that restaurant. There was one at Siam Center but there was a queue outside and we were very hungry at that time as it was already 8pm.So we just settled our dinner at the food court.
After dinner,we saw there was a night market. My mum wanted to go and pray at the temple as that day was her actual birthday. All these years we did not know this, even my dad,cos her IC indicated 27 august except for her birth certificate. What a joke haha.We took the train to Chidlom with just bf,mum and myself.Felt bad to ask the girls along so I asked them to shop at the night market first and we will be back to join them later.Felt so sad to part our ways. And this was what happened most of the time as we had to shop separately,if not we would have to keep wasting time waiting for one another.
Woke up very early the next morning to shop at the Pratunam morning market. Those makeshift stalls were only there in the early morning and had to pack up when the shops start to open for business.Managed to shop for quite an amount of stuff but poor bf had to carry my shopping bags for me.
The best shopping companion who never complains;)
The pathetic variety for breakfast.Didn't really expect it.Furthermore, the variety only changes slightly through the days.
Sunday morning on our way to the Chatuchak Weekend Market.Had my hair tied up to beat the hot weather.
The happy boy with his coconut ice cream.
I still can't believe how little I shopped at Chatuchak. It was only when we were starting to head back that I managed to find 3 tops. That was all that I got.I saw many nice NB shoes too.I was quite tempted to get but I don't know how to match those shoes with.Luckily the weather wasn't as bad as I thought as I heard from my bf that the other time he came,it was super hot and stuffy in the market. The weather was probably better that day as it was cloudy and drizzled soon after we left Chatuchak. We decided to head over to MBK for our late lunch at Yum Saap.My mum ordered so much for the 3 of us.My camera died so I didn't manage to take photos of the dishes. But the bill came up to only abt $20.What a hearty meal! The girls were still shopping at Chatuchak when we left but they headed back to the hotel from there while we shopped at MBK till dinner time.Did my manicure while my mum had a pedicure and massage.Had to leave bf to shop alone for that one hour while waiting for us to get done.MBK is like a heaven to my mum as there was a Naraya outlet over there and she bought a lot of local food products too.Dinner was with everyone at Central World.Quite an atas place but there were quite a few cute looking cafes.
Monday was spent shopping at Platinum Mall.Only managed to buy a little as the prices seemed to have increased.I only eyed on items from 100 baht to 200 baht but quite limited I must say.It was definitely a better idea for me to shop at Pratunam Market.Had a small tiff with my mum that morning so she didn't talk much while we were shopping at Platinum.Had our lunch at the food court and not long later she said she wanna shop for a while more only before heading back to the hotel. So the rest of the afternoon was just bf and I.Finally some alone time with bf.
Some tomato based pasta with some thai flavour in it.Quite yummy.
Bf ordered this.I have no idea what's the name of it but I heard it is quite popular.
Wooo how can anyone not have crepes when in Bkk?So many variations and you can even add extra ingredients.Sadly, the bf bought the other one and not this one.
Chocolate and banana. But not that nice.
In the evening,my mum finally started talking to me.We headed over to MBK again.Had dinner at this HK style restaurant and we ordered a lot.Loving the white long sleeved top and necklace that I got from Pratunam market and Platinum Mall respectively.
Giant plate of fried rice for sharing between the three of us.
I can never have enough of tom yum soup.So spicy and shiok! Some crab fritters at the side too.
I love this dish so much.Fish slices with cashews and other stuff.
My pathetic loot for that day.
Fast forward to Day 4 lunch. At Platinum Mall again. Finally got to try the crepe that I wanted. It was sooooo good!We ordered the ham and egg one.
Cold Stone for our tea time! Can never get sick of oreos and chocolate chips and vanilla.
Finally a group photo!
Okay sorry to be abrupt but I'm feeling lazy to type already.Might fill in more details soon.
Till then,
Jub jub!
